Art 41 Basel | Art Basel Conversations

Since its inception in 2002, the Art Basel Conversations program has staged discussions about current aspects of the international artworld featuring distinguished artists, art collectors, museum directors, curators, critics, gallerists, architects, and publishers.

This year’s program will start off with the traditional Premiere “Artist Talk”, starring the highly acclaimed Los Angeles artist Paul McCarthy in conversation with curator Massimiliano Gioni. McCarthy has exhibited widely in the past decades and his work has inspired many younger artists.

The museums and institutions panel “Crossing the Atlantic” features Klaus Biesenbach, Lynne Cooke and Ann Goldstein, who have all worked, curated and directed institutions in both Europe and in the United States. On Friday morning Irving Blum and Jeffrey Deitch will talk about their lives in art. The “Future of the Museum” series hosted by Hans Ulrich Obrist will this year focus on “Art and Architecture” bringing together architects Yona Friedman, Christian Kerez and Farshid Moussavi, discussing the future in architecture, urban development and design. On Sunday, Maria Giuseppina Caccia Dominioni Panza, Giovanna Panza di Biumo, Carmen Giménez, Joseph Kosuth and Maria Nordman will pay homage to the Italian collector Giuseppe Panza di Biumo, who recently passed away.

Art Basel Conversations will take place every morning at 10 am in a newly designed space in Hall 1.
